What does it matter whether Rugare
Gumbo says this or Robert Mugabe says that? Fact is that will not
bring food on the table. That will not make water run in the taps.
That will not put medicines in hospitals. That will not pay civil
servants. That will not ignite electricity. That will not pay IMF
loans. That will not make things right.
What it does is waste time – precious
time. What it does is divert attention from issues eating away at
people's lives.
My son born in 1994 has never enjoyed
uninterrupted electricity. He has never enjoyed standing in the
shower where water runs freely. Even when he was at boarding school,
he tells me that electricity was never uninterrupted.
He has a right, just like any other Zimbabwean child, to a better life. Free education. A safe life.
He has been through difficult times
when supermarkets were empty. When we would abandon the car at a Glen
Norah service station for weeks on end, waiting for petrol. He has
had to go without many essentials.
Now he has become a man. He will soon
have his own child. That child will also be subjected to the same
rough treatment under a party that no longer cares. A leadership
concerned with itself. A people that have been reduced into nothing.
What is wrong with us such that we
believe plain lies? That we still follow blind men and women? This is
not about believing in a country. In being black. Unless you tell me
that being black means accepting to be led to death. Unless you
convince me that being black means just looking at things without
asking. Unless you make me see sense in the chaos that is Rugare
Gumbo, Robert Mugabe and all the motherfuckers shitting on us.
This is not about being pan-Africanist.
Unless being pan-Africanist means supporting the idiocy and the
circus in Zanu-PF. Unless you tell me that being pan-Africanist means
backing up other people who amass wealth without betting an eye while
the entire country is dying.
What is wrong with us such that we have
so-called educated people misleading the people using state resources
just because they are picking up crumbs from under the table? How
low have we sunk to be shat on as if we are a branch and Zanu-PF is
a bird that drops its shit on us?
For me, it's not about what Rugare
Gumbo says or does not say. It is not about what Robert Mugabe says
or does not say. For they have said far too many things which never
materialised. How can they say anything meaningful now? For they have
told us so many lies. How can they tell us a single truth now after
34 years of shitting lies?
